Q: What was the part of the job that confused you the most?
"The Learning Period Paperwork is daunting and requires a lot of information." "The most difficult thing so far has been getting all of the end of learning period paperwork in and submitted correctly." "The most confusing aspect of the job were samples. To this day, it seems as though the rules and requirements are not clear across the board. I feel an official, written procedure would be beneficial." |
Q: What information did you receive later that could have been beneficial if you had it earlier?
"Tricks for completing paperwork. Tools for using TeacherEase and expectations for TeacherEase use." "I believe that if I had had the time to be trained on the TeacherEase... earlier, it would have made the first year a lot easier." "Learning Period Paperwork run-through." "Paperwork expectations and procedures." |
Q: If you were to train a new teacher at your academy, what is the first thing you would teach them?
"If I was training someone I would teach them how to use Teacher Ease or the site's selected grading program. I would be very detailed in how to correctly label assignments and how to use some of the tricks of the website to make grading and entering scores easier." "I think the first thing I would teach a new teacher is the technology aspect of the job (TeacherEase- entering assignments, adding resources to digital lockers, communicating with parents and preparing reports etc...)" |
Q: Please give us any other information that you think will help us improve the training process for new teachers at your academy.
"Provide them with a manual or other reference material. Having the processes, procedures, and policies written down will allow new teachers to feel like they have a resource that they can use rather than always asking other teachers or the site coordinator. Although I know we are open to answering questions, a new hire may feel they are inconveniencing us with so many questions or may begin to feel inept. Having the training process written down would be extremely helpful!" "I believe that when possible it would be good to have a seminar on the technology and also to have new teachers meet with their PLC to possibly get some help on planning and share lesson plans.
